Report on POWER Winter Leadership Assembly Dec 12
3 GJC'ers were among 90 attendees at POWER's Winter Leadership Assembly at Mishkan Shalom last Thursday night. There were presentations on POWER's accomplishments over the past year and plans for 2014. 2013 highlights included kickoff of the campaign for a full and fair school funding formula, progress on extending the city's living wage law to city subcontractors, and progress on federal legislation providing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. There was a report on house meetings conducted by POWER member congregations. And the Assembly ratified POWER's plan to focus on voter engagement in 2014, as the means of elevating the interests of the people over special interests.
